Cummins, Inc. has issued a recall. CERTAIN CUMMINS ONAN GENERATORS, MODEL 3.2 KW QD, INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT IN CERTAIN WINNEBAGO RECREATIONAL VEHICLES. THE GENERATOR'S INTERNAL CONTROLLER CAN FAIL ALLOWING THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS TO REMAIN ENERGIZED. IF THE CIRCUITS REMAIN ENERGIZED BEYOND THE DESIGNED PERIOD, THE PREHEATER ELEMENT CAN OVER HEAT POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE IN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM.
What you should do
- Read the official announcement before driving. Some fire-risk recalls advise parking outside and away from buildings, because the fire can start while the vehicle is parked and switched off. Contact a dealer to arrange the free repair.
- CUMMINS IS WORKING WITH WINNEBAGO TO NOTIFY OWNERS AND CUMMINS WILL EITHER REPLACE OR, AS APPROPRIATE, REWORK ALL THE AFFECTED GENERATORS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT CUMMINS ONAN ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-888-6626.

Dear Customer:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and
Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Cummins Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in
Cummins
Onan Quiet Diesel 3200 generator sets that were shipped between May 21,
2007 and August 27, 2007 and installed in Winnebago View and ltasca Navion
motorhomes built between June 11,2007 and August 3,2007. We believe that your
recreational vehicle is included in that group. The specific information is as follows:

The defect affects the controller that is located within the generator housing. Should the
generator's internal controller fail and its electrical circuits remain energized beyond the
designed period, the preheater element which aids cold starts can overheat and could
cause a fire in the generator air intake system.
Cummins
Onan has identified a remedy that resolves the safety issue and allows you to
use your generator as intended to minimize the disruption to you. The campaign repair
involves replacement of components located within the generator (including replacement
of the generator controller). If you have not already done so, please contact your dealer
or distributor to schedule a repair. This repair
will be performed free of charge. This
repair should take approximately
3 hours to complete, but you may have your unit out of
service for up to 1 day.
