Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : The uSTART module electronics can short internally, allowing the vehicle
battery to discharge into the uSTART electronics. The manufacturer is
currently aware of two incidents where this possible defect has occurred.

Description of the Safety Risk :A short circuit in the uSTART electronics can allow the vehicle battery to fully
discharge into the uSTART, generating a large quantity of smoke with the
possibility of a thermal
event. Manufacturer is currently unaware of any personal injury resulting
from this possible defect.
Description of the Cause : Root cause analysis performed to date indicates cracking of multilayer ceramic
capacitors on the uSTART circuit boards.

A large generation of smoke may occur due to the electronics short circuit.
