SUBARU LEGACY Recall: Subaru of America, Inc. - Airbag or seat belt (Jan 2019)
Subaru of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2012 SUBARU B9 TRIBECA, 2010–2013 SUBARU FORESTER, 2010–2011 SUBARU IMPREZA. Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2010-2014 Tribeca, WRX, Outback, and Legacy vehicles, 2010-2011 Impreza vehicles and 2010-2013 Forester vehicles sold, or ever registered, in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling. An explosion of an inflator within the passenger frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the front seat passenger, driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
What you should do
- Arrange the free repair as soon as you can. Everyone should keep wearing seat belts in the meantime - a belt with a defect still offers more protection than none. Read the official announcement for whether any seat should not be used.
- Subaru is notifying owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 25, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is TKB-19.

Descriptive Information :TK Global (former Takata) has submitted a DIR (Zone B) in accordance with the terms
specified in the May 4, 2016 Amendment to the November 3, 2015 Consent Order in
EA15-001.
Subaru is submitting this DIR in accordance with section 46 of Coordinated Remedy
Order.
This recall affects Takata Non-Desiccated Frontal Passenger-side Air Bag Inflators
containing Phase Stabilized Ammonium Nitrate for Zone B, for vehicles not already
covered under NHTSA Campaign Numbers 14V763, 15V323, 16V359, 17V026 and
18V013. Zone B includes states with moderate temperature cycling and absolute
humidity. It includes: Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois,
Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New
Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West
Virginia. Please note any older models not previously recalled which have established
registration within Zone B since recall 18V013 was implemented last year will also be
included in this phase of the expansion.
